Statement of Assyria Liberation Party

The news of the terrorist attack in Damascus at the Mar Elia church plunged us into deep sorrow. As a result of this atrocity dozens of people were killed and injured.

On behalf of the Assyria Liberation Party we express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to all Christian believers in the Middle East.

Terrorism has long been a weapon of the ruling regimes of the Middle East aimed at eradicating the Christian presence. Christians in Assyria have suffered untold hardships that have crippled hundreds of thousands of human lives.

Dictators are replaced by revolutionaries, democrats, Islamists, but the goal of all these regimes remains unchanged: to wipe off the face of the earth, destroy, uproot the indigenous peoples of the Fertile Crescent region.

Given the timing, purpose and method of the atrocity, it is clear that this was not a random act, but a deliberate, systematic attack designed to sow fear, divide communities and extinguish any hope for freedom and a dignified existence in their own land.

It is necessary to show a decisive will and stand in the way of these atrocities overcoming existing differences and mobilizing our people for a united and courageous resistance to this evil. The creation of our own national homeland with national security services is the only guarantee for saving lives, freedom of religion, preserving the language, culture and traditions of the Assyrian people.

We pray for the repose of the innocent victims, granting the victims a speedy recovery, and for their families, relatives, friends and all our people - consolation and fortitude in this trial.
