ASSYRIA LIBERATION PARTY PRESS RELEASE November 3, 2025
Statement on the 176th Anniversary of Assyrian Press Day
We the Assyria Liberation Party proudly celebrated the 176th anniversary of Assyrian Press Day on November 3rd and emphasize that this day marks a historic turning point, strengthening our national identity and our people's struggle for freedom and independence.
The Assyrian press which traces its roots to the newspaper "Zahrira d'Bahra" published in Urmia in 1849 was more than just a publishing house, but a cornerstone of Assyrian identity, culture and the national struggle for existence. Therefore November 3rd symbolizes the Assyrian people's unwavering commitment to freedom of speech, press and thought.
The founding fathers of the Assyrian national press Ashur Yusuf, Feredun Athuraya, Naum Faik and other outstanding writers did more than simply practice journalism they brought to the world the crimes committed against the Assyrian people and wrote the history of our struggle for rights and freedoms. The legacy of these heroes is our shared national treasure.
Today, the Assyrian press survives despite political pressure security threats, economic shortages, and linguistic difficulties, becoming the voice of our people.
Today, strengthening the position of the Assyrian press in the digital media sphere and effectively utilizing artificial intelligence and modern technologies has become imperative. A stronger voice for our national cause in the international community depends on this.
However our party is deeply concerned by the recent dangerous attempts by individuals and groups to distort Assyrian history, weaken our national culture and undermine our identity. The identity of the Assyrian people cannot be changed at anyone's whim. We openly declare that we will oppose any distortion of our history and national values, and that those who engage in such attempts will be held accountable in the name of our people.
As the Assyria Liberation Party we respectfully declare to the public that we will continue to support protect and strengthen our national press and will resolutely defend Assyrian identity, the ideals of freedom and the struggle for national existence.
